Our 2023 participant, Energy New England (ENE), is the leading wholesale risk management and energy trading organization in the Northeast and has made significant strides in the clean energy and electrification sectors. As a champion of sustainable energy solutions, ENE is not just about managing risks and trading energy; it is paving the way for a future where electric vehicles (EVs) and electrification are at the forefront of energy innovation.
ENE’s commitment to electrification and sustainable energy is growing, with efforts now extending into Vermont. This expansion represents a new chapter for ENE as it brings its expertise and innovative solutions to more communities.
In 2023, ENE engaged in various initiatives aimed at promoting EV adoption and general electrification education. Through EV test drives and showcases, ENE provided hands-on experiences that demystify EVs for the general public. These events served as a powerful tool for community engagement, offering a glimpse into the practical benefits and efficiencies of EVs. Beyond these experiences, ENE has been a resource for municipal utility clients, providing EV advisory support, educational materials, and assistance with commercial charging installations across the state.
ENE’s work with the Boston Water and Sewer Commission stands out as a prime example of its commitment to electrification. Assisting in the electrification of a 200-vehicle fleet showcases ENE’s capability to support large-scale transitions to cleaner transportation options. Additionally, working with Investor-Owned Utility companies to utilize the EV make-ready program to build out the necessary electric infrastructure required to charge those vehicles is another outstanding highlight.
As ENE moves into 2024, the organization remains dedicated to its mission of supporting municipal utility clients with EV education and support programs. ENE’s ongoing support for commercial fleet electrification and charging infrastructure growth marks a continuous effort to enhance sustainable transportation options. Furthermore, ENE’s partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to identify and recommend locations for National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) in gap areas underscores its integral role in shaping the future of clean transportation and grid optimization.
Energy New England’s journey through 2023 is a testament to its leadership in the clean energy sector. Through educational initiatives, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to community engagement, ENE is not just responding to the demand for cleaner, more sustainable energy solutions—it is leading the charge. As ENE continues to break new ground in electrification and clean energy, its actions in 2023 set a solid foundation for a future where sustainable energy is not just a vision but a reality for communities across the Northeast and beyond.
