2023 Participant Milestones Spotlight: Bridgewater State University

In an era where innovation drives progress, our 2023 participant Bridgewater State University (BSU), the largest of Massachusetts’ nine state universities, is setting a remarkable example in the realm of sustainable energy and electric vehicles (EVs). With a series of initiatives throughout 2023, BSU has not only embraced electrification but has also embarked on a journey to educate its community about the benefits and advancements in clean energy solutions.

The most visible sign of BSU’s commitment to sustainable energy is the addition of several EV charging stations across the campus. With the installation of new ports, the university is ensuring that students, faculty, and visitors have ample opportunities to charge their EVs. These installations include:

  • Four dual ChargePoint chargers at DMF

  • One dual ChargePoint at Tinsley

  • Three dual ChargePoint at Weygand Hall

  • Additionally, a dual ChargePoint at Swenson Field is coming up, expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2024.

These charging stations are not only convenient but are also a statement of BSU’s dedication to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting EV usage among its community.

BSU’s commitment to sustainable energy and electrification goes beyond infrastructure; the university has actively engaged its community through various educational activities throughout 2023. By hosting EV test drives, lunch and learns, webinars, EV showcases and general electrification education sessions, BSU has provided hands-on experiences and learning opportunities for its students and staff.

One of the most significant strides made by BSU in 2023 is its successful grant application to the Department of Energy Resources, which resulted in a $100,000 award for their Fleet Electrification Infrastructure Project. This grant will further BSU’s efforts in transitioning its fleet to EVs, showcasing a sustainable path forward for educational institutions.

Moreover, the university has placed an order for a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV), underscoring its commitment to embracing cleaner, more sustainable modes of transportation.

Through its installation of EV charging stations, educational initiatives, and successful grant applications, BSU is not only preparing its community for a cleaner, electrified world but also setting an example for institutions nationwide. As we move forward, the actions and initiatives of BSU will undoubtedly inspire others to embark on similar journeys towards sustainability and innovation in energy.
