The Upper Minnesota Valley Regional Development Commission (UMVRDC) serves as a crucial resource for local government entities across five counties: Big Stone, Chippewa, Lac qui Parle, Swift, and Yellow Medicine. This unique regional development agency is composed of representatives from townships, cities, counties, school boards, and public interest groups, creating a comprehensive coalition dedicated to sustainable growth and intergovernmental support.
At the core of UMVRDC’s mission is providing technical assistance to local governments within its five-county region, equipping these communities with resources to address development goals and challenges. Governed by a board primarily consisting of local elected officials, UMVRDC operates with a strong foundation in public service, guiding policy, setting strategic direction, and approving programs that drive the agency’s mission forward.
In addition to direct support, UMVRDC enables the implementation of regional programs that span multiple jurisdictions, from local to state and federal levels. Through this multi-jurisdictional approach, the Commission has successfully delivered a variety of initiatives that benefit the region as a whole, reflecting its commitment to fostering community collaboration and sustainable development across county and municipal boundaries.
