The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) leads the state’s efforts to prevent and reduce pollution across air, land, and water while taking proactive measures against the devastating effects of climate change. As part of its commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier environment, MPCA is strategically utilizing funds from the Volkswagen settlement to reduce vehicle emissions, improve air quality, and build a cleaner transportation system for the future.

Recognizing the harmful impact of vehicle air pollution on community health and climate change, MPCA has prioritized reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants through investments in cleaner vehicles and equipment. The agency currently operates three EV chargers on its property and has transitioned four of its 107 fleet vehicles to electric, aligning with its goal to reduce fossil fuel use in state fleet vehicles and equipment by 30% by 2030, compared to a 2017 baseline.

Through its initiatives, MPCA is working to reduce harmful emissions, protect public health, and lead Minnesota toward a more sustainable and resilient future. By addressing vehicle pollution today and investing in tomorrow’s cleaner transportation solutions, MPCA is paving the way for a healthier state and a more sustainable world.
