Our Work

Recharge America helps communities achieve their clean energy goals in a way that includes, involves and benefits everybody. We use a four-part playbook to guide communities in creating and carrying out their own clean energy plans.

Recharge America helps communities achieve their clean energy goals in a way that includes, involves and benefits everybody. We use a four-part playbook to guide communities in creating and carrying out their own clean energy plans.

The Playbook

Mobilize Clean Energy Champions
We collaborate with local community foundations, Chambers of Commerce, colleges and universities, regional philanthropists, city staff, and others through local and regional working groups. Together, we develop and put into action clean energy roadmaps tailored to each area's needs.

Deliver Community Education
We create major community events that showcase the potential of clean energy technologies and encourage community members to take charge of their own future by being the main characters in their community's energy journey.

Develop and Implement Programs
We provide guidance as technical advisors to develop and implement clean energy programs. This includes creating and supporting initiatives that prepare workers for the future energy economy.

Celebrate Clean Energy Leadership
We shine a spotlight on and celebrate energy investments that bring economic and environmental benefits to local communities, yet are often overlooked by the very people they aim to assist.

Organizations across the country are taking steps to integrate advanced energy technologies into their practices, be it in using electric vehicles to power fleets to creating community power using local microgrids. Too often that work is invisible to and unseen by the community members it aims to serve.

Recharge America spotlights those efforts through our participant recognition program. Now numbering over 100 entities nationally, they represent a diverse array of organizations – universities, municipalities, utilities, manufacturers, transit agencies, community foundations, and more – working to deploy clean energy initiatives designed to make life better for their community members.

Recharge America celebrates that work through annual state-level recognition programs and supports participants with a range of technical assistance, all delivered at no cost thanks to the support we receive from our program funders.

Annual symposia in select states facilitate Recharge Participants learning from each other and sharing best practices in their energy transition.

We have witnessed this phenomenon consistently, and we are excited about the prospect of collaborating with you to assist your community in realizing its vision for a locally-driven clean energy future.

For more than ten years, we’ve supported tens of thousands of individuals across various communities throughout the country in discovering the potential of new electric technologies.

We’re here to assist with all aspects of community involvement required to introduce new clean electricity options to your community, such as:

  • Collaborating with community leaders to identify the local voices that can help ensure viable clean energy initiatives are completed;
  • Holding roundtables and listening sessions that help diverse entities collaborate;
  • Conducting community outreach campaigns;
  • Hosting community events focused on careers, training and workforce pipeline development;
  • Moderating community conversations to collect comments and feedback; and
  • Creating and administering surveys and evaluating program impact.

The US faces labor shortages in skilled trades in the coming decades. According to figures from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, we will need tens of thousands of additional electricians to meet the growing demands from the EV transition. We confront similar shortages for HVAC technicians and other construction trades (carpenters, plumbers, etc.).

Training programs, upskilling workers, encouraging vocational training as a viable path for students, and hiring programs with employers will all be required to address these shortages.

These good-paying jobs create opportunities for non-traditional students and in communities that are at risk of being left behind in the electrification transformation.

Project Development

Recharge America offers project development support for entities interested in developing their local EV programs and initiatives. Our Project Development practice supports implementation, driving projects toward completion. Let us help you:
  • Write and submit grants for projects you want to implement
  • Act as a project administrator or grant administrator on behalf of grant recipients
  • Enact a workforce development pipeline: creating curriculum, identifying and negotiating agreements with employers and training centers, creating communications for recruitment
  • Implement your communications strategy and campaigns
