Reflecting on a US Presidential Election

Recharge America and its network of participants remain focused on driving transformative economic growth and local investments. We are committed to advancing clean energy initiatives, supporting innovation, and establishing markets that create jobs, drive opportunity, strengthen our economy, and encourage American manufacturing.

Even as a non-partisan, non-political organization, we can’t help but reflect on one unassailable finding from the US presidential election: communities matter, particularly when people are struggling.

Since its inception, Recharge America has made community economic development our centerpiece for supporting emerging electrification technologies. We prioritize communities because we care about people.

Recharge America partners with communities to create better opportunities for people – at home, at work, in the air they breathe, and in their overall economic prospects.

Our purpose at Recharge America is not primarily about technology and policy, though both are important. We foster awareness of the opportunities that unfold as communities embrace new energy technologies and collaborate with community members to capitalize on that promise. We must continue our shared effort to:

  • ensure that communities don’t get left behind as other parts of the world, representing most of the global population, embrace electrification as a crucial strategy for ensuring their long-term interests;
  • inspire new workforce participants with the potential found in a wide array of industries, including American manufacturing;
  • foster workforce pipeline and training programs that can bring even first-time high school graduates through to high-paid, reliable jobs after being trained by local technical schools;
  • help households, businesses, and community leaders secure lower costs and more predictable energy prices; and
  • deliver innovative programs that achieve local goals for attracting and retaining talent while helping communities become more livable and inviting.

Each new US administration brings its own priorities. Over the past decade, we have seen how communities thrive when people work together toward a common promise. We have helped communities large and small – representing every political sensibility – collaborate to create an energy future that best serves their interests, even as they maintain and respect diverse perspectives. The communities we work in across America request and need that support.

These initiatives will continue to help revitalize our communities, accelerate the shift to clean transportation, and build a more resilient energy infrastructure. We will continue to advance community participation, celebrate Recharge America participant successes, and help solve common problems.

And, once again, we would like to thank all of you for your critically important work. As we all take stock of the path ahead, we would love to hear from you about your plans and how we can help.
